Lake Geneva Community Guide
Quick answer: Lake Geneva is a city of about 8,800 people at the east end of Geneva Lake, roughly 80 miles (90 minutes) from downtown Chicago and 50 miles from Milwaukee. It’s the commercial center of the lake: a downtown on the water, a public beach, tour boats, the start of the 21-mile Shore Path and 2 resort golf complexes nearby.
Homes range from downtown condos and older in-town houses to lakefront estates on Snake Road and lake-access homes around Lake Como. Public schools are Lake Geneva J1 (4K to 8) and Badger High School.
Lake Geneva has been a Chicago weekend town since the 1870s, and it still runs on 2 calendars. Summer weekends fill Wrigley Drive and the beach. From November to April it’s a working small Wisconsin city with a lake view.

If you’re moving here
Plan around the 2 seasons. Summer weekend traffic on Main Street and Wrigley Drive is real. Off-season, the drive downtown takes 5 minutes.
Know which municipality you’re buying in. A Lake Geneva mailing address can mean the City of Lake Geneva or the Town of Geneva, Linn or Bloomfield. Taxes, zoning and short-term rental rules differ.
Check pier and slip rights in writing. On Geneva Lake, pier rights, slip assignments and Shore Path easements are worth confirming before closing.
