Lake Geneva Summer Activities
Quick answer: Ride the Mailboat (June 15 to Sept 15), spend an afternoon at Riviera, Williams Bay or Fontana beach, and rent a pontoon or paddleboard for a few hours. Then catch a free water ski show (the Twin Lakes Aquanuts go Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6:30 p.m.) or Thursday’s free Concert in the Park.
Plan around 2 big dates: July 4 fireworks and the Venetian Festival in mid-August. Book boats, the Mailboat and rooms for both well ahead.
Summer is when everything on Geneva Lake runs at once: tour boats, staffed beaches, sailing schools, 3 free water ski teams and a festival most weekends. It’s also when Lake Geneva is busiest, so a little planning goes a long way.
This guide covers the whole lake area, from Lake Geneva, Williams Bay and Fontana to Delavan, Elkhorn, Twin Lakes, Burlington and Whitewater.

Paddling at noon on a Saturday. Boat traffic turns Geneva Lake choppy. Go before 10 a.m.
Driving downtown on July 4 or Venetian Sunday. Use the free Sage Street lot (Lot D) or Dunn Field (Lot E) and skip the meters ($4 an hour Friday to Sunday).
Assuming every beach has lifeguards. Big Foot Beach State Park doesn’t.
If you’re moving here
Summer is when the lake towns are at full volume: piers in, boat traffic on weekends, festivals in town squares. Much of the Geneva Lake shoreline is second homes, and the towns fill out from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Housing ranges from lakefront estates and lake-access homes around Williams Bay, Fontana and Lake Como to golf-course homes at Geneva National and condos a few blocks from the Riviera downtown. Delavan Lake, Lauderdale Lakes and Twin Lakes offer lake living at different price points. See the community guides for each town.
