Lake Geneva Spring Activities
Quick answer: Come in late April for Wee Whiskey Fest and Restaurant Week, or in May when Black Point Estate, Old World Wisconsin and the Thursday farmers market all open. Boat tours run from April, trails fill with wildflowers, and golf courses open as soon as the ground dries.
March is the quiet month. Go then for empty restaurants and low resort rates, not for the lake.
Spring is when Lake Geneva belongs to the people who live here. Lodging is cheaper than summer, you can get a dinner reservation without planning, and the Shore Path is nearly empty.
The tradeoff is the water: it’s too cold to swim until June, and beaches aren’t staffed until Memorial Day weekend.

Lake Geneva in spring, month by month
March
The quietest month of the year. Ski hills usually close by mid-March, the lake ice goes out, and the town waits for spring.
Go for restaurants, downtown shops and spa deals. Easter falls on March 28 in 2027, and resorts and restaurants run brunches and egg hunts that weekend.
April
Lake Geneva Cruise Line starts its public tours. Wee Whiskey Fest lands in mid-April, Restaurant Week runs for about a week in late April, and Women’s Weekend brings shopping events downtown the last weekend of the month, with check-in at The Cove of Lake Geneva (111 Center St.).
Woodland wildflowers (trillium, bloodroot, marsh marigold) come up in the Kettle Moraine and at Kishwauketoe.
May
Everything starts opening. Black Point Estate and Old World Wisconsin open the first weekend. The farmers market starts on Thursdays and the fishing opener is the first Saturday.
Mid-May is busy: the Geneva Cheese Festival at Lake Geneva House of Music (N3241 County Rd. H), the Spring Wine Walk downtown (check-in at The Bottle Shop, 617 W. Main St.), Elkhorn’s Spring Food Truck Festival at Veterans Park, and the first Elkhorn Antique Flea Market of the year (500+ vendors, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the fairgrounds).
Memorial Day weekend is the start of summer: lifeguards return to the beaches, the free water ski shows begin, and Grand Geneva’s Sunday fireworks start. See the summer guide for what comes next.

Spring mistakes to skip
Planning a beach day before Memorial Day. The water is still cold in May, and lifeguards don’t start until Memorial Day weekend.
Expecting the Mailboat. It runs June 15 to Sept 15. Other cruise line tours start in April.
Waiting on Wine Walk tickets. Downtown’s wine walks sell out. Buy when tickets go on sale.
Forgetting layers. A 70-degree afternoon can drop into the 40s after sunset, especially on the water.
If you’re moving here
Spring is when the most homes come on the market around Geneva Lake, ahead of summer. Seeing a property in May tells you a lot: the gardens are coming in, piers go back in the water and you can see how the shoreline looks once the ice is out.
Closing in spring means a full first summer on the lake. Housing ranges from downtown Lake Geneva condos a few blocks from the Riviera to lake-access homes around Williams Bay, Fontana and Lake Como. See the community guides for each town.
