What’s Happening at The Lake: New Lake Geneva Restaurants and Venetian Festival Week, August 19 to 25, 2026

Three new places opened around the lake this year, and the biggest week on the local calendar starts Wednesday. Trying to do both at once is ambitious. Doable, but ambitious.

From Wednesday, August 19 through Tuesday, August 25, the Lake Geneva area has the 64th annual Venetian Festival taking over the downtown lakefront for five days, Willie Nelson and Tim McGraw on back-to-back nights at Alpine Valley, free music in Reid Park, and three genuinely new places worth building a plan around. There is also one supper club on the way that is worth putting on your radar now, even though it will not open for another year.

Kim and Joel Reyenga with eXp Realty round up these Lake Geneva events every week because weeks like this one are the reason people start looking at listings on the drive home. Fireworks over the water Sunday night, a new breakfast table with a lake view, and somebody around Elkhorn saying it out loud: “We could just be here.”

You could. That is more or less the whole point.

Here is your guide to the week, plus the one long-range restaurant story worth tracking.

What’s happening in Lake Geneva this week?

The new Lake Geneva restaurants and businesses worth putting on your regular rotation are Emmi’s at Harbor Shores for a breakfast-to-dinner lakefront table, Natural Grocers in Geneva Commons for organic groceries and supplements, and Wee Nip at Grand Geneva for a quick 11-hole round with a drink waiting at the finish.

The week itself belongs to the 64th annual Venetian Festival, running Wednesday, August 19 through Sunday, August 23. The big finish is Sunday, when the car and bike show, water ski show, lighted boat parade, and fireworks all stack into one long lakefront day.

Translation: pick your one firm plan, then stop scheduling. The lake will handle the rest.

Three new places to put on the list

Emmi’s has the lakefront breakfast table Lake Geneva was missing

300 Wrigley Drive, Harbor Shores, Lake Geneva | Wednesday through Sunday, 7 AM to 9 PM

Emmi’s opened at Harbor Shores in 2026, and the hours matter more than they sound. A lot of lakefront dining around here starts later in the day. Emmi’s gives you waffles or a Benedict before a Shore Path walk, then keeps the same room working straight through dinner.

The menu leans Wisconsin diner and supper club: Norwegian waffles, a bratwurst Benedict, burgers, walleye, steak frites, ribs, fish and chips, and a Friday fish fry. Every table faces the water, and the covered deck is the move when the weather holds. It also has free reserved parking, which removes one real downtown friction point on a busy weekend.

Go for breakfast before the crowd gets moving, or an early dinner before Venetian Festival. Wednesday through Friday at 7 AM is the quiet window.

Natural Grocers changes the practical side of a lake weekend

600 N. Edwards Blvd., Geneva Commons, Lake Geneva | Opened June 10, 2026

Natural Grocers opened June 10 in Geneva Commons, and the company calls it its first Wisconsin store. Inside you will find certified-organic produce, natural and organic pantry goods, body-care products, supplements, and bulk goods.

Anyone staying in a rental will get more out of this than someone running in for a single snack. It is the easy stop for breakfast supplies, a cooler for the boat, a specific grocery list, or the six things you remember you forgot roughly four minutes after unpacking.

Treat it as the practical stop between your rental, the lake, and the rest of your plans.

Wee Nip gives Grand Geneva a faster way to play

Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, Lake Geneva | 11 holes, about 90 minutes

Wee Nip opened to the public on May 19. The 11-hole course averages about 90 yards per hole, and the resort says a round usually takes 90 minutes or less.

Golfers who want the full Brute or Highlands day already know where to go. Wee Nip is for the group with wildly mixed skill levels, the person swinging a club for the first time, or anyone who wants a round that still leaves most of the day for the lake.

The course ends at a social area called the 12th hole, with a whiskey-driven menu, fire pits, yard games, music, and casual seating. Book it as a late-afternoon plan and let the evening take its own shape.

Venetian Festival takes over the lakefront, August 19 to 23

Wednesday, August 19 through Sunday, August 23 | Flat Iron Park, Library Park, and Seminary Park, Lake Geneva | Free to enter

The 64th annual Lake Geneva Jaycees Venetian Festival runs across all three downtown parks for five days. Grounds are free. Carnival rides, food, and the 21-and-over entertainment pavilion all have their own costs.

The best day depends on the day you actually have.

  • Wednesday, August 19. A calmer opening night. Go if carnival wristbands matter more to you than a packed lakefront.
  • Thursday, August 20. Another quieter evening. Good for rides, then dinner without Sunday-level traffic.
  • Friday, August 21. A late carnival night and live music. Make a dinner reservation before you head downtown.
  • Saturday, August 22. Craft fair, Touch a Truck, Baggo, and pig races. Arrive early. This is the full daytime crowd.
  • Sunday, August 23. Car and bike show, ski show, boat parade, fireworks. If you only have one day, take Sunday.

The Arts and Crafts Fair runs in Library Park Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM. It is free, with more than 90 exhibitors. The Car and Bike Show lands in Seminary Park Sunday from 11 AM to 3 PM, also free for spectators.

Sunday gets busy early and then keeps adding reasons to stay. The Wonder Lake Ski Team starts at 6 PM near Library Park and the Riviera. The lighted boat parade and fireworks begin at dusk. Pick your dinner time before you pick your viewing spot, because an early table gives you a real shot at both.

Two big Alpine Valley nights

Outlaw Festival

Friday, August 21 | 3:30 PM | Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy

Live Nation lists Willie Nelson, the Avett Brothers, Lukas Nelson, and more for an afternoon start that runs into the evening. Alpine Valley is about a 25-minute drive from downtown Lake Geneva, and it is the same night as a late carnival at Venetian. Pick one.

Tim McGraw: Pawn Shop Guitar Tour

Saturday, August 22 | 7 PM | Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy

Tim McGraw takes the amphitheater Saturday night. Same trade-off as Friday: this is a large-venue evening, and it will not leave much room for the lakefront.

Quieter picks closer to the water

If you want a smaller plan than an amphitheater, The Abbey Resort has a full August calendar in Fontana.

  • Music in the Park, Thursday, August 20, 6 to 8 PM at Reid Park. Free outdoor music, and an easy alternative to a Venetian carnival night.
  • Summer Glow Pool Party, Saturday evening at the resort.
  • Blacklight Bingo, Monday night.
  • 60 Seconds-to-Succeed Games, Tuesday night.

Check the resort calendar before you drive over, because event details do change.

The useful way to build the week

Here is the version that works without trying to cram everything into one weekend.

Start with Emmi’s for breakfast or an early dinner. Use Natural Grocers if you are stocking a rental or heading out on a boat. Put Wee Nip on the day the group cannot agree on a full golf round. Save Sunday for Venetian Festival, and plan to be parked, fed, and near the water before the ski show starts at 6 PM.

The lake gets crowded during Venetian. That is part of the deal. The people who enjoy it most are the ones who make one firm plan, leave room around it, and stop treating every hour like a scavenger hunt.

Why a week like this turns weekenders into homeowners

Look at the spread. A new breakfast room on the water, a grocery store that makes a rental week easier, a golf round that fits in an afternoon, and five days of festival on the lakefront. That is not a vacation. That is a life people want on repeat.

Kim and Joel Reyenga with eXp Realty help Chicago buyers read the whole Lake Geneva picture, not just the listing photos. Which communities fit which kind of weekend, how Williams Bay sits differently from Fontana and differently again from Delavan, and where the good fish fries, boat launches, and quiet streets actually are. The stuff you learn by living here, which they do.
