1. Lake Geneva Winterfest 2027: the main event
Lake Geneva Winterfest runs Wednesday, February 3 through Sunday, February 7, 2027 along the lakefront at Riviera Plaza and Flat Iron Park.
This will be the 32nd annual Winterfest.
The centerpiece is America’s Snow Sculpting Invitational. Fifteen teams are selected to compete, with sculptors coming from the United States and abroad.
The competition starts at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 3 and ends at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 6.
The awards ceremony is Saturday.
Why Lake Geneva Winterfest is worth planning around
The best part of Winterfest is that you can watch the work happen.
Go Wednesday and the snow blocks are still blocks. Come back Friday and you can see where each team is headed. By Saturday morning the same stretch of lakefront has turned into a temporary outdoor sculpture gallery.
That progression gives Winterfest more than one good day.
People who want the finished work should aim for Saturday or Sunday. People who enjoy the process should go Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
What is confirmed for 2027
As of September 9, the following pieces are confirmed by VISIT Lake Geneva:
- Winterfest runs February 3 through 7.
- America’s Snow Sculpting Invitational runs February 3 through 6.
- The sculpting period is 11 a.m. Wednesday through 11 a.m. Saturday.
- 15 teams will be selected.
- The awards ceremony is Saturday, February 6.
- Sculptures remain on display after judging as weather allows.
- Winterfest is free to attend.
VISIT Lake Geneva also continues to describe the annual festival as including the Downtown Ice Sculpture Walk, Bonfires on the Beach, live entertainment and other community activities.
The exact 2027 hour-by-hour public schedule has not been posted yet. We will update this guide when it is.
What Winterfest looked like in 2026
The 2026 program gives you a useful sense of the weekend without pretending every detail will repeat exactly.
The 2026 festival had a downtown ice sculpture walk, Bonfires on Riviera Beach, a KidZone in Flat Iron Park, food and beverage vendors, entertainment in the Riviera Ballroom, People’s Choice voting and a Saturday awards ceremony.
For 2027, treat those as a planning preview until the new program is posted.
The best day to go to Lake Geneva Winterfest
There is no single answer because the event changes every day.
Wednesday, February 3: best for watching the process start
Sculpting begins at 11 a.m.
Wednesday is the day for someone who wants to watch teams lay out the piece, cut into the block and establish the big shapes. The finished sculptures are still days away.
Crowds should also be easier than Saturday.
If you are local or staying nearby, Wednesday is worth an hour or 2.
Thursday, February 4: best balance of sculpting and breathing room
By Thursday, the designs are taking shape.
This is probably the best day for serious photography of sculptors working because the event is active and the weekend crowd has not fully arrived.
Bundle up and give yourself time to circle the lakefront twice. The second pass usually looks different from the first.
Friday, February 5: best weekday atmosphere
Friday has more weekend energy without being Saturday.
The sculptures are far enough along to understand the design, but teams are still working against the clock.
If the 2027 Bonfires on the Beach schedule follows the annual pattern, Friday will likely be an evening worth watching. Wait for the official schedule before locking that into dinner plans.
Saturday, February 6: best overall Winterfest day
The competition ends at 11 a.m. Saturday.
That makes Saturday the first day when all of the competitive sculptures should be finished at once, barring weather or an event change. The awards ceremony is also scheduled for Saturday.
Grand Geneva’s Winter Carnival lands on February 6 too.
For a visitor who only gets 1 Winterfest day in 2027, Saturday is the strongest choice.
It will also be the busiest.
Sunday, February 7: best for finished sculptures with fewer fixed deadlines
Sunday is the final Winterfest day.
The competition is over, so you can focus on the finished sculptures instead of watching teams work. Sculptures remain outside as long as the weather allows.
Warm temperatures, rain and sun can change snow art quickly. If the forecast turns soft, Saturday becomes the safer bet for sharp detail.
2. America’s Snow Sculpting Invitational: what you are actually watching
This is a competition, not a row of decorative snowmen.
Teams work from massive blocks of snow and have a limited competition window. The 2027 rules call for teams of 3 people: a captain and 2 additional members.
VISIT Lake Geneva says 15 teams will be chosen.
The official 2027 application schedule also tells us when the field will come together. Applications close October 1, 2026. Team invitations are expected around November 2. Final sculpture information is due November 30.
That means the 2027 sculpture lineup should become much clearer late in 2026.
How long do the sculptors have?
The 2027 competition period runs from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Saturday.
That is 72 hours.
Weather is part of the contest. Cold dry snow handles differently than wet snow near freezing. Sun exposure matters. Wind matters. A February warm-up can become the extra opponent nobody asked for.
When are the Lake Geneva Winterfest sculptures judged?
The 2027 awards ceremony is Saturday, February 6.
VISIT Lake Geneva has not yet posted the full public awards schedule or 2027 People’s Choice voting hours. Those details should be added when the public program is released.
Lake Geneva Winterfest map: understand the footprint before you park
The core is compact.
Riviera Plaza and Flat Iron Park sit on the east end of Geneva Lake in downtown Lake Geneva. Wrigley Drive runs along the lakefront between the Riviera and downtown streets.
That gives you a walkable festival setup.
You can see the snow sculptures, cross into Flat Iron Park, walk downtown for ice sculptures, warm up over lunch and come back to the lakefront without moving the car.
The trick is getting the car parked once.
Lake Geneva Winterfest parking and shuttle strategy
The 2027 parking and shuttle page has not been posted yet.
Do not copy last year’s rates into a 2027 trip plan.
In 2026, the City of Lake Geneva used paid downtown parking and ran free weekend shuttles from 2 pickup points north of downtown, including the Park-n-Ride near Sheridan Springs Road and a Home Depot lot on Edwards Boulevard.
That history tells us what to watch for. It does not confirm the 2027 plan.
Our Winterfest parking rule
If you are coming Saturday, decide before you reach downtown whether you are willing to hunt for a central parking space.
People who hate circling blocks should use the official shuttle if the city brings it back in 2027.
Check the official Winterfest parking and shuttle page during the week of your trip. That page should outrank an old screenshot in your camera roll every time.
How much does Lake Geneva Winterfest cost?
Winterfest is free to attend.
You can walk through the snow-sculpting area and view the sculptures without buying a festival ticket.
Your actual day can still cost money. Downtown parking, food, shopping, resort activities, skiing and special events are separate.
That makes Winterfest an easy anchor. Decide how much you want to bolt onto it.
Is Lake Geneva Winterfest good for kids?
Yes.
The snow sculptures give kids something immediate to look at, and the lakefront footprint is compact enough that you can change direction quickly when somebody gets cold.
The bigger issue is weather.
A 25-degree sunny afternoon is a different family outing from 8 degrees with wind coming off Geneva Lake.
For little kids, bring one layer more than you think they need. Gloves get wet. Snow gets inside boots. Somebody will want hot chocolate 9 minutes after you park.
Stroller note
Downtown sidewalks are paved, but snow, slush and curb piles can make a small-wheel stroller annoying.
A larger-wheel stroller handles winter streets better. If the snow is fresh, a carrier may be easier for a toddler.
What to wear to Lake Geneva Winterfest
Dress for standing outside.
Walking downtown can make you warm. Watching one sculpture team work for 20 minutes does the opposite.
Use:
- Waterproof winter boots
- Wool or synthetic socks
- Warm gloves
- Hat that covers your ears
- Wind-resistant outer layer
- Hand warmers on truly cold days
The lake creates open exposure along Wrigley Drive.
And leave the smooth-bottom fashion boots for dinner.
Where to warm up during Winterfest
One of the easiest things about Winterfest is downtown Lake Geneva.
You are a few blocks from restaurants, coffee shops, bars and stores. Build warm-up time into the day instead of waiting until everybody is frozen.
A simple Saturday rhythm works:
Morning: Snow sculptures Lunch: Downtown Early afternoon: Ice Sculpture Walk and shops Later afternoon: Return to the sculptures or head to Grand Geneva
The official 2027 Riviera warming and entertainment details should be added here once they are published.
3. Grand Geneva Winter Carnival: February 6, 2027
Grand Geneva Resort & Spa has posted its 2026-27 Mountain Top event calendar, and Winter Carnival is Saturday, February 6, 2027.
That lands on the same Saturday the snow sculpting competition ends in downtown Lake Geneva.
This pairing is one of the best winter days you can build in the region.
Who should combine the 2 events
Families with older kids can make this a full day.
See the finished Winterfest sculptures downtown in the morning. Then head to The Mountain Top for winter recreation or Carnival programming.
Grand Geneva has skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing during the winter season, weather permitting. Tickets and advance reservations apply to many activities.
The detailed 2027 Winter Carnival program has not been posted yet.
Past Winter Carnivals have included ski and snowboard activities, games, torchlight elements and fireworks. Keep those in the planning column until Grand Geneva publishes the 2027 schedule.
Best for: Families, skiers, people who want a full winter Saturday Date: Saturday, February 6, 2027 Location: The Mountain Top at Grand Geneva Resort & Spa Official source: Grand Geneva winter activities
4. Delavan Winterfest: January 16, 2027
Lake Geneva does not get the first Winterfest of the local season.
That belongs to Delavan.
The Town of Delavan says its Winterfest is held on the third Saturday in January at Delavan Lake Community Park, 1220 South Shore Drive. A current 2026-27 local event publication lists the next Winterfest for Saturday, January 16, 2027.
The event has included vintage snowmobiles, ice carving and local high school band performances.
This is a smaller community festival than Lake Geneva Winterfest.
And that is the reason to put it on the page.
Why Delavan Winterfest belongs in a Lake Geneva winter guide
Delavan Lake is part of the same Southern Lakes weekend pattern.
From Lake Geneva, you can reach the Town of Delavan quickly enough to make Winterfest one block in the day rather than an overnight trip.
January 16 also lines up with Wisconsin Free Fishing Weekend, which runs January 16 and 17, 2027.
That creates an interesting winter weekend around Delavan Lake for anglers and families.
The Wisconsin DNR says residents and nonresidents can fish eligible Wisconsin waters during Free Fishing Weekend without a fishing license, trout stamp or salmon stamp. All other fishing regulations still apply.
Ice safety is a separate decision. The DNR does not monitor local ice thickness.
Best for: Local families, vintage snowmobiles, ice carving, a smaller winter event Date: Saturday, January 16, 2027 Location: Delavan Lake Community Park, 1220 South Shore Drive, Delavan Official source: Town of Delavan Community Events at the Park
5. Kenosha Snow Daze: January 30, 2027
Kenosha Snow Daze is farther from Lake Geneva, but it is the closest comparable downtown ice-art festival that belongs in this regional list.
Visit Kenosha calls Snow Daze a free winter festival in Downtown Kenosha.
Its current Fall/Winter 2026-2027 FUN 101 guide lists Snow Daze for January 30, 2027.
The 2026 version had more than 40 ice sculptures spread through downtown and Veterans Memorial Park. It also had live ice carving, s’mores, music, free skating and free downtown streetcar rides.
The full 2027 program has not been released yet, so use the 2026 details as a picture of the event rather than a promise.
Who should drive to Snow Daze
Go if your favorite part of Lake Geneva Winterfest is the Ice Sculpture Walk.
Snow Daze builds the day around downtown ice art. The harbor and Veterans Memorial Park give it a different setting, and Downtown Kenosha has enough restaurants and shops to warm up between sculptures.
Best for: Ice art, downtown walking, a low-cost winter day Date: January 30, 2027 Location: Downtown Kenosha and Veterans Memorial Park Admission: Free Official source: Visit Kenosha Snow Daze
Other Southern Lakes winter events worth pairing with the festivals
Our fan-out search did not find a confirmed 2027 event called Winterfest in Williams Bay, Fontana, Elkhorn, East Troy or Whitewater as of September 9, 2026.
Those towns still belong in a winter trip.
The useful move is to separate actual Winterfest-branded festivals from other good winter events.
Elkhorn Winter Artisan Market
The Elkhorn Area Chamber runs its Winter Artisan Market on the first and third Saturdays in December, January and February.
The market is indoors, which makes it a good backup on a bitter Saturday.
Check the Elkhorn Area Chamber Winter Artisan Market for the 2026-27 schedule before driving over.
Kettle Moraine Southern Unit Candlelight Hike & Ski
The Kettle Moraine State Forest Southern Unit has hosted a January Candlelight Hike & Ski at the Nordic trails near Whitewater.
The 2026 event lit the forest with 450 candle luminaries and included a bonfire, chili and hot chocolate.
A 2027 date had not been posted by September 9.
This is one to watch because it fits the exact weekend traveler LakeGenevaWeekend is built for.
Use our Kettle Moraine Guide and Kettle Moraine Southern Unit Guide for the area, then verify the event on the Wisconsin DNR calendar once winter dates go live.
Wisconsin Free Fishing Weekend
The 2027 winter Free Fishing Weekend is January 16 and 17.
That is confirmed by the Wisconsin DNR.
It lands on the same weekend as Delavan Winterfest, which makes Delavan Lake, Geneva Lake and other local waters part of a broader winter-planning weekend.
Fishing without a license does not remove bag limits, size limits, species rules or ice-safety concerns.
Check current DNR rules before fishing.
The 3-week winter festival run to save
If you want to build an editorial calendar around this page, the cleanest run is:
January 16: Delavan Winterfest
A local, smaller winter festival and Free Fishing Weekend.
January 30: Kenosha Snow Daze
A free downtown ice-sculpture day.
February 3-7: Lake Geneva Winterfest
The major regional event and the page’s primary search target.
February 6: Grand Geneva Winter Carnival
A same-day add-on to the biggest Saturday of Winterfest.
This creates 4 event hooks across 23 days.
For LakeGenevaWeekend, that is enough material for the pillar page, individual event posts, weekly WHATL articles, social posts and calendar entries without writing the same story 5 times.
A simple Lake Geneva Winterfest weekend
Friday
Arrive in Lake Geneva in the afternoon.
Walk the snow sculptures while the teams are still working. Get dinner downtown. If Bonfires on the Beach are confirmed for Friday night in the 2027 schedule, make that the last stop.
Saturday
Start early.
See the finished competition sculptures after the 11 a.m. deadline, then walk the Downtown Ice Sculpture Walk.
Have lunch before the awards crowd builds.
Families who want more snow time can head to Grand Geneva for Winter Carnival later in the day. People staying downtown can keep the afternoon around the lakefront.
Sunday
Make Sunday easier.
Return for the sculptures, walk a quiet piece of downtown, have brunch and leave room for weather.
If Saturday was packed, Sunday is the recovery lap.
A cold-weather backup plan
Winter trips around Lake Geneva need a Plan B.
Temperatures can swing 30 degrees in a week. Snow can be perfect, slushy or hard as concrete. Wind off Geneva Lake can turn a reasonable forecast into a short outing.
Pick one indoor backup before the trip.
Good winter categories around the region include:
- Geneva Lake Museum
- Indoor waterpark time
- Spa time
- Theatre or live music
- Long lunch or supper club stop
- Shopping downtown
- Elkhorn Winter Artisan Market on scheduled dates
The Lake Geneva Events Calendar is the best place on our site to check what else is happening during your exact weekend.
What Lake Geneva Winterfest visitors usually get wrong
They arrive Saturday at noon with no parking plan
Saturday is the main event day.
Check the official parking and shuttle plan before you leave home. If a free shuttle is running, use it when that makes your day easier.
They expect every sculpture to be finished on Wednesday
Wednesday is the start of the competition.
You are watching construction.
For finished work, aim for Saturday after the 11 a.m. deadline or Sunday.
They dress for walking instead of standing
Winterfest has both.
You may walk 6 blocks and feel fine, then stand in one windy spot for 15 minutes watching a sculptor carve detail.
Dress for the second part.
They trust an old event schedule
Winterfest repeats every year, but individual activities move.
Use the current VISIT Lake Geneva page for the main program and the LakeGenevaWeekend calendar for the broader weekend.
They try to fill every hour
Winterfest works better with gaps.
See the sculptures. Warm up. Eat. Walk downtown. Go back outside.
You do not need an activity at 11, 12, 1, 2 and 3.

A local note from Kim and Joel
Winter changes the way the Lake Geneva area works.
Parking gets easier on an ordinary January Tuesday. Restaurants feel more local. The lakefront opens up. Then Winterfest arrives and downtown is busy again for a few days.
That rhythm is one of the reasons people who first came here in July start finding excuses to come back in February.
