The top things to do in Lake Geneva with kids

1. Ride the Mailboat

Book aheadOnly in Lake Geneva

A mail jumper leaps off the moving boat, drops mail at a lakefront pier and jumps back on before it pulls away. Kids watch every stop, which keeps a 2.5-hour cruise moving.

Tip: Sit on the side closest to the piers. For shorter cruises with little ones, see the boat tours guide.

Mistakes to avoid

Showing up at Safari without a reservation. It’s required, and summer weekends book out.

Waiting until June for swim lessons. Water Safety Patrol registration closes before the season starts.

Counting on Riviera Beach for toddlers at noon. It’s the busiest beach on the lake. Fontana or Williams Bay are calmer.

Skipping the weather check. Balloon flights, Movies on the Beach and the Aquanuts all cancel in wind or storms.

If you’re moving here

Lake Geneva, Williams Bay and Fontana each have a public beach, parks and a downtown within a few minutes of the water. Fontana’s Reid Park and beach sit a few blocks from the village center, and Williams Bay’s conservancy land runs along Elkhorn Road.

Housing ranges from downtown Lake Geneva condos to older cottages in the villages and newer homes west of town. Chicago is about 90 minutes away and Milwaukee about an hour. See the community guides for each town.
