October 2026 Lake Geneva Events and Things To Do

Updated Sept. 24, 2026. Dates checked against organizer schedules.

October is when Lake Geneva slows down enough to enjoy. The boats still run, the Shore Path empties out, and every weekend has a festival within about 20 minutes of Wrigley Drive.

Quick answer

The biggest Lake Geneva October events in 2026 are Downtown Lake Geneva’s free Oktoberfest at Flat Iron Park (Oct. 10 and 11), Elkhorn Oktoberfest on the square (Oct. 17), Dragon Days (Oct. 3 and 4), and pumpkin weekends at Pearce’s Farm Stand and Lake Geneva Ziplines. Which October weekend fits what you want

Most people plan around 1 thing. Start there and build the rest of the weekend around it.

Beer, brats and polkaOct. 10 and 11 downtown. If you’d rather skip the crowd, Elkhorn’s square version on Oct. 17 is smaller and easier to park for.

Pumpkins and farm standsPearce’s Pumpkin Fest on Oct. 10 and 11, or any Harvest Fest weekend at The Elegant Farmer through Oct. 25.

Time on the waterBook a Lake Geneva Cruise Line tour early in the month. The season ends with October, and weekend boats fill up.

Leaves without the crowdA weekday morning on the Shore Path in the second half of the month. You’ll have long stretches to yourself.

Something a little spookyEast Troy’s Trick-or-Treat Trains, Black Point’s October programs, and a Halloween that falls on a Saturday this year.

Games, stars and odditiesDragon Days on Oct. 3 and 4 celebrates Lake Geneva as the birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons. Astronomy on Tap follows on Oct. 9.

Oct. 1 to 4: Dragon Days and the first Oktoberfests

The month starts busy. Three things overlap on Saturday, Oct. 3, so pick a home base and don’t try to hit everything.

Dragon Days Fantasy Festival

Dragon Days spreads across downtown Lake Geneva and celebrates the city’s claim as the birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons. Gary Gygax lived here, and the festival raises money for the Gygax Memorial Fund.

Expect costumes, a fantasy market in Library Park, tabletop gaming, and programs at the library and the Geneva Lake Museum. In 2025, the organizers reported more than 2,000 attendees, and the museum set an attendance record that weekend.

  • Wise Fest 2026: Oct. 1 to 4 at Jennings Holler in Eagle, about 40 minutes north. A multi-day music festival, so it’s a whole-trip commitment.

Oct. 9 to 11: Lake Geneva Oktoberfest weekend

This is the biggest weekend of the month in Lake Geneva. Book lodging early, and plan on the shuttle.

Downtown Lake Geneva Oktoberfest

The Downtown Lake Geneva BID runs this one at Flat Iron Park on the lakefront, and admission is free. The 11 a.m. keg tapping opens Saturday, followed by accordion music, dachshund and corgi races, a brat toss, stein hoisting, and German dance demonstrations.

Sunday is a shorter, looser day: a jazz band in the morning, beer bingo, a pie eating contest at noon, and a brass band through the afternoon. Downtown shops run autumn sidewalk sales both days.

When
Sat., Oct. 10, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 11, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where
Flat Iron Park and downtown Lake Geneva

Sat. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.: bounce houses, face painting, crafts, and a free pumpkin while supplies last
Parking
Free city shuttle (below). Downtown meters are $4 per hour Fri. to Sun.

Take the shuttle. The free City of Lake Geneva shuttle runs about every 20 minutes, Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pickups are at the Park-n-Ride (Sheridan Springs Road and Edwards Boulevard, north of Highway 50) and Home Depot (550 N. Edwards Blvd.). Drop-off is at Wrigley Drive and Baker Street, right by the park entrance.

Prefer to drive in? The Central Denison PTO sells all-day parking at 900 Wisconsin St., and the city posts a downtown parking map. No overnight street parking from 2 to 6 a.m.

Oktoberfest Beer Crawl

New for 2026, the Beer Crawl works as the official pre-party on Friday night. It starts downtown at 5 p.m., and the afterparty runs 8 to 11 p.m. at Geneva Tap House with live music and food trucks.

Astronomy on Tap with Yerkes Observatory

Same Friday, different crowd. Yerkes Observatory brings its Astronomy on Tap talk to Duesterbeck’s from 6 to 8 p.m. Past sessions have been free. Pair it with a Saturday tour of Yerkes itself in Williams Bay: the classic tour runs about 90 minutes and climbs several staircases, so it isn’t wheelchair accessible.

Pumpkin Fest Weekend at Pearce’s

If you want pumpkins without the downtown crowd, drive 15 minutes to Walworth. Pumpkin Fest runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days at W5740 North Walworth Rd.

Oct. 16 to 18: Elkhorn Oktoberfest and peak color

If you only get 1 October weekend and you care about leaves, this is the one to bet on. Around Geneva Lake, color usually peaks in the third week of October.

Elkhorn Oktoberfest

The Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce runs its 21st Oktoberfest around Veterans Park and the square downtown, and admission is free. It’s one day, easier to get around than Lake Geneva’s, and it packs a lot in: live music from 11 a.m., an Oktoberfest 5K run/walk, a classic car show, food vendors along Wisconsin Street, and a beer and wine tasting that moves through downtown shops.

When
Sat., Oct. 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where
Veterans Park area, 100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn
Cost
Free admission

Pumpkin Drop and Fall Festival at Lake Geneva Ziplines

You ride a 1,221-foot dual racing zip line and try to drop a pumpkin on a target below. It’s as silly as it sounds, and people love it. The Pumpkin Drop is available daily during the last 2 weeks of October.

On festival Saturdays, there’s also an app-based pumpkin scavenger hike (aimed at ages 4 to 10), live music on the patio, and hot dogs and s’mores over the fire. The patio is free.

When
Festival Saturdays Oct. 17 and 24, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where
N3232 County Road H, Lake Geneva
Cost
Patio free; zip line, climbing tower, and ropes course are paid
Good to know
The canopy tour is being rebuilt after July 3 storm damage, so book the activities listed for October

Oct. 23 to 25: last calls

This weekend is quieter, and that’s the appeal. It’s also your last good shot at a few seasonal things.

  • Zipline fall fest, round 2: Sat., Oct. 24, with The Ellingtwins on the patio.
  • Harvest Fest at The Elegant Farmer: the final weekend, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1545 Main St. in Mukwonago. Pair it with the Mukwonago guide.
  • A boat tour: the Lake Geneva Cruise Line season ends with October. Don’t leave it for Halloween weekend.

Oct. 30 to Nov. 1: Halloween weekend

Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026. That matters for trick-or-treat.

The City of Lake Geneva sets trick-or-treat on Halloween itself when it lands on a Friday or Saturday, and on the last Sunday of October in other years. So in 2026 it’s Saturday, Oct. 31. The city posts the hours on its site closer to the date.

On Sunday, Nov. 1, the Fall Wine Walk runs noon to 4 p.m. downtown with more than 20 tasting stops. Tickets are $45 ($20 for designated drivers), all ticket holders must be 21 or older, and check-in runs 10 a.m. to noon at The Bottle Shop, 617 W. Main St. It sells out most years, so buy in October.

Things to do in Lake Geneva all October

These run all month, so they fill any open afternoon.

Lake Geneva Cruise Line

The cruise line has run tours on Geneva Lake since 1873, and October is the last month at the Riviera Docks before the boats move to Williams Bay for winter. The Fall Foliage tour is the seasonal pick. The full lake tour takes about 2 hours and circles the whole lake with narration about the estates on shore.

Pricing
Prime and non-prime rates; weekends usually cost more
Access

Black Point Estate and Gardens

Chicago brewer Conrad Seipp built this 20-room Queen Anne summer house in 1888. You still arrive the way his guests did, by boat from the Riviera Docks, then climb the hill for a guided tour. The Wisconsin Historical Society runs the site.

In past years, October has brought an evening cruise with live readings of Edgar Allan Poe at the house. Check the schedule and the final tour date before you plan around it.

Geneva Lake Shore Path

The public footpath around Geneva Lake crosses private lawns, piers, and estate gardens. October is the best month for it: cool air, color on the trees, and far fewer people than July. Start from Williams Bay or Fontana if you want to avoid downtown parking on festival weekends.

East Troy Railroad Museum

Harvest Fest trains run fall weekends between the East Troy depot and The Elegant Farmer, and Trick-or-Treat Trains run near Halloween. The museum’s calendar notes that kids get a pumpkin on the return trip for the Halloween runs, and advance tickets are required. Details in the East Troy community guide.

Apple Fest at Royal Oaks Farm Orchard

Just over the state line in Harvard, Illinois, Royal Oaks runs Apple Fest daily through Oct. 11, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at 15908 Hebron Rd. It’s an easy stop if you’re driving up from Chicago on Route 14. For more farms, see the apple orchards and pumpkin patches guide.

Best of October around Lake Geneva

  • Best overall: Downtown Lake Geneva Oktoberfest. Free, on the lake, and 2 full days.
  • Best value: the same Oktoberfest, if you ride the free shuttle and skip the meters.
  • Best rainy-day option: Dragon Days, with indoor venues at the library, museum, and Horticultural Hall.
  • Best date night: Astronomy on Tap on Oct. 9, or a late-afternoon foliage cruise.
  • Best photo spot: the Shore Path in the third week of October, early morning.
  • Best local favorite: Elkhorn Oktoberfest. Smaller, friendlier, and easy to park near.

When fall color peaks in Lake Geneva

Usually the second half of October. The Wisconsin DNR says southern Wisconsin wraps up its color change around late October, and around Geneva Lake the third week is the safest bet.

Weather moves it by a week either way. Keep an eye on the maples along the Shore Path and the hills above Williams Bay; when they turn, the rest of the county is close behind.

Expect cold mornings and mild afternoons. Bring layers, and a real jacket for any boat tour after 4 p.m. It’s colder on the water than it is on shore.

Weekdays vs. weekends

Weekends carry every festival and most of the traffic, especially Oct. 10 and 11. Weekdays are the quiet version of Lake Geneva: open tables at dinner, empty stretches of Shore Path, and easier boat reservations. Some restaurants and shops shorten fall hours midweek, so check before you drive.

Common October mistakes

  • Driving downtown on Oktoberfest Saturday. Use the shuttle. It beats circling for a meter.
  • Waiting on the boat tour. The season ends with October. Book in the first 2 weeks.
  • Guessing the trick-or-treat date. Lake Geneva often uses the last Sunday of the month. In 2026 it’s Saturday, Oct. 31.
  • Buying Wine Walk tickets late. It sells out most years.
  • Chasing peak color on a set date. Book a flexible weekend in the second half of the month and check the color report.

What October says about living at the lake

October is the month to see Lake Geneva as it is most of the year. The summer traffic is gone, piers start coming out of the water, and you find out which restaurants, shops, and marinas stay open into the off-season.

It’s also a practical month to look at property. Showings are easier to schedule than in summer, leaves are coming down so lake views open up, and you can see how a house sits on its lot before snow covers everything.

Each town around the lake runs on a different rhythm in fall. Downtown Lake Geneva stays busy on weekends, Williams Bay gets quiet fast, and Elkhorn works year-round as the county seat. The community guides cover drive times, lakes, and what each place is like in every season.
