What’s Happening at The Lake
Derby Hats, Cinco De Mayo Energy, Live Music, Local Theater, and One Very Busy Lake Geneva Weekend
Hey Lake Lovers,
This week around Lake Geneva has that “spring finally remembered it has a job” feeling. Patios are waking up, downtown is getting busier, and the calendar is starting to look a little dangerous in the best way.
We’ve got ABBA and Fleetwood Mac tribute music at Geneva Stage. We’ve got Into the Woods opening in Elkhorn. We’ve got Derby parties with big hats, mint juleps, and people pretending they picked the winning horse based on deep research instead of the name. And now we’ve got Cinco De Mayo celebrations rolling into the weekend too, especially in Delavan and downtown Lake Geneva.
Honestly, the lake is not easing into May. It is kicking the door open.
Kim and Joel Reyenga with eXp Realty love this part of the Lake Geneva lifestyle because it shows what people are really buying when they fall for this area. Yes, the homes matter. Of course they do. But the lifestyle is what gets under your skin. Dinner downtown. Music on a Thursday. A festival in Delavan. A lakefront Derby party in Williams Bay. That “maybe we should stay longer” feeling that shows up before you even realize it.
So grab the calendar. Maybe the cute hat. Maybe the stretchy pants. Let’s get into it.
What is happening in Lake Geneva this weekend?
Lake Geneva’s weekend lineup includes Kentucky Derby parties on Saturday, May 2, Cinco De Mayo celebrations at Thumbs Up in downtown Lake Geneva and Delavan’s multi-day Cinco de Mayo Fest, Into the Woods at Lakeland Players in Elkhorn, stand-up comedy at The Bottle Shop, coffee cupping at Queen Bee Artisan Market, and a Sunday wine tasting at The Bottle Shop.
Thumbs Up lists its Cinco De Derby party for May 2 from 5 PM to 2:30 AM, with drink specials tied to both Cinco De Mayo and the Kentucky Derby. Delavan’s Cinco de Mayo Fest runs May 1 through May 3 with music, food, and parade events across the weekend.
Thursday Night Starts With ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, and Downtown Lake Geneva Sparkle
Arrival & Dreams, A Tribute to ABBA and Fleetwood Mac
Thursday, April 30 | 7:00 PM Geneva Stage, 244 Broad St, Lake Geneva Tickets required
Geneva Stage is bringing a double tribute night to downtown Lake Geneva with Arrival & Dreams, featuring the music of ABBA and Fleetwood Mac. Visit Lake Geneva lists the event for Thursday, April 30 at 7 PM at Geneva Stage.
This is the kind of show that starts as “we’ll go for something fun to do” and ends with someone emotionally singing Fleetwood Mac like they have personally lived through every lyric.
No judgment.
Downtown Lake Geneva on a Thursday night already has its own little buzz, and a tribute night like this gives you a good excuse to make it a full evening. Dinner first. Show after. Maybe one more drink because Broad Street has a way of convincing people they are younger than they are.
Also happening Thursday, Harpoon Willie’s in Williams Bay has live music, Fat Cat’s in Lake Geneva has live music, and Jennings Holler at Jackass Saloon in Eagle has Ladies Night.
Thursday is not being shy.
Elkhorn Gets a Little Fairy Tale Drama
Into the Woods
Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 17 Lakeland Players Ltd, Sprague Theater, 15 W Walworth St, Elkhorn Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM | Sunday at 2:00 PM Tickets: $20
Lakeland Players opens Into the Woods on Friday, May 1 at Sprague Theater in Elkhorn. Visit Lake Geneva lists the show running May 1 through May 17, with Friday and Saturday performances at 7:30 PM and Sunday matinees at 2 PM.
Stephen Sondheim, fairy tale characters, local theater, and enough emotional chaos to remind you that fairy tales were never quite as sweet as Disney made them look.
And can we talk about local theater for half a second? Because there is something great about seeing a live show close to home, then grabbing dinner nearby, and not having to pay $47 to park in a concrete ramp that smells like old coffee and regret.
Elkhorn gets points for that.
Cinco De Mayo Comes Early, and Delavan Is Going Big
Delavan Cinco de Mayo Fest
Friday, May 1 through Sunday, May 3 Downtown Delavan Music, food, parade, car show, performances, and family fun
Delavan is the big Cinco De Mayo hub this week, and it is not a one-night thing. The Delavan Lake Chamber lists the annual Elena P. Godina Delavan Cinco de Mayo Fest as the first weekend in May, with events on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Friday, May 1 runs from 3 PM to 9 PM, with:
- DJ Smilez from 3 PM to 5 PM
- Stand-up comedy with Adrian Avila at 5 PM
- Cantante Letticia Vela at 6 PM
- Los Cadetes de Tony Caño at 7 PM
- Addios at 9 PM
Saturday, May 2 runs from 10 AM to 9 PM, including:
- Car show from 10 AM to 2 PM in the United Methodist Church parking lot
- DJ Smilez from 10 AM to noon
- Balet Folkorico Juvenil and Sangre Mexicana de Beloit at noon
- Payaso Guapetin at 1 PM
- Jalapeño eating event at 2 PM
Sunday, May 3 includes:
- Parade lineup at 10 AM
- Parade at 10:30 AM near Washington and 7th Street
- DJ Abel
- Mass with the United Methodist Church of Delavan at 11:15 AM
- Balet Folkorico at noon
This is the one you plan around if you want a full festival feel. Food, music, performances, and downtown energy. Also, jalapeño eating? Brave. Chaotic. Slightly alarming.
I respect it.
Lake Geneva Gets Cinco De Derby at Thumbs Up
Cinco De Derby Party
Saturday, May 2 | 5:00 PM to 2:30 AM Thumbs Up, 260 Broad St, Lake Geneva Cinco De Mayo meets Kentucky Derby
Thumbs Up in downtown Lake Geneva is hosting Cinco De Derby on Saturday, May 2 from 5 PM to 2:30 AM. Their event listing says they are celebrating Cinco De Mayo and the Kentucky Derby with $1 off mint juleps and Corona beers, plus $7 Casamigos shots all night.
This is exactly the kind of mashup Lake Geneva does well. Derby hats. Cinco drinks. Downtown bar energy. Probably one person in a seersucker jacket standing next to someone in a sombrero-inspired party look, both convinced they nailed the assignment.
They probably did.
Thumbs Up is also right in the thick of downtown, so this makes an easy stop if you’re bouncing between dinner, live music, and Saturday night plans.
Williams Bay Weekend Note, Derby at the Lakefront
Kentucky Derby Party at PIER 290
Saturday, May 2 PIER 290, 1 Liechty Drive, Williams Bay Derby celebration with lakefront views
What Williams Bay does have this weekend is a Derby Day celebration at PIER 290, right on the water. And frankly, if you are going to watch the Run for the Roses anywhere around Geneva Lake, a lakefront restaurant with boats nearby is not a bad answer.
PIER 290 is one of those places that reminds people why Williams Bay has such a loyal following. It feels lakey without trying too hard. You get the view, the marina energy, the cocktails, and the “maybe we should look at houses over here” moment that sneaks up on people.
Kim and Joel see that all the time.
Derby Day Around the Lake
Saturday, May 2 is loaded with Kentucky Derby celebrations around the Lake Geneva area.
Maxwell Mansion Kentucky Derby Party
Saturday, May 2 | 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM Maxwell Mansion, 304 S Wells St, Lake Geneva
Maxwell Mansion lists its Kentucky Derby Party for Saturday, May 2 from 1 PM to 6 PM at 304 S Wells Street in Lake Geneva, with racing, drinks, prizes, signature Derby cocktails, and a patio party atmosphere.
The event also includes a SMILES of Lake Geneva therapy horse meet and greet with Nugget from 1 PM to 3 PM, plus raffles, auction items, and best-dressed prizes.
That is ridiculously charming.
Other Derby Stops to Know
The weekly lineup also includes Derby celebrations at Duesterbeck’s Brewing Company in Elkhorn, Turtle Lake Tap & Grill in Delavan, East Troy Brewery, and the Kentucky Derby Dinner Train at the East Troy Railroad Museum.
If you like a dressed-up Saturday, this is your weekend.
If you don’t like a dressed-up Saturday, go anyway and call your outfit “casual Derby.” Confidence covers a lot.
Comedy, Coffee, and Wine for the Weekend Crowd
Stand-Up Comedy at The Bottle Shop
Saturday, May 2 The Bottle Shop, Grapevine Theater, Lake Geneva Two showtimes, call to reserve
The Bottle Shop is hosting a stand-up comedy show at the Grapevine Theater with two showtimes. This is your Saturday night option if you want cocktails, laughs, and a break from horse racing commentary.
Coffee Cupping with East View Coffee
Saturday, May 2 | Morning, time TBD Queen Bee Artisan Market, 830 W Main St, Suite 900, Lake Geneva
Coffee cupping with East View Coffee at Queen Bee Artisan Market gives Saturday morning a different kind of flavor. It is part tasting, part learning, part “oh wow, my daily coffee has been living below its potential.”
I hate when coffee gets fancy and then I like it.
Sip into Spring Wine Tasting
Sunday, May 3 The Bottle Shop, 617 W Main St, Lake Geneva
Sunday brings Sip into Spring Wine Tasting at The Bottle Shop. A calmer finish after Derby and Cinco weekend? Yes.
Necessary? Also yes.
Midweek Locals Know the Lake Does Not Wait for Friday
Tuesday, April 28 has Music Bingo at The Thirsty Parrot in the Lake Como area, plus Taco Tuesdays with Mexican food, open mic and jam, and Poker Club at Lake Geneva House of Music.
Wednesday, April 29 brings Live Music Wednesdays at Lake City Social from 4 PM to 9 PM, Ladies Night at House of Bogini, Karaoke at Fat Cat’s at 8 PM, and Glen Davis Blues Jam at Hogs & Kisses.
This is the part visitors sometimes miss. Lake Geneva is not only a Saturday place. The locals know the midweek rhythm. A little music. A quiet dinner. A parking spot that does not require emotional stamina.
Tiny luxury.
Lake Geneva Lifestyle, With a Side of Real Estate
Kim and Joel Reyenga with eXp Realty know this area from the inside out, from Lake Geneva to Williams Bay, Fontana, Delavan, Elkhorn, and the communities tucked around the water and countryside.
They help buyers understand more than the house. They help people understand the lifestyle. Which neighborhoods feel quiet? Which spots are close to restaurants? Where do Chicago families tend to land when they want a weekend home? What does lake life feel like in April, May, October, and yes, even February when the lake is moody and gorgeous in that Wisconsin way?
That kind of local knowledge matters.
Because people usually do not fall in love with Lake Geneva from a spreadsheet. They fall in love because of a weekend. A dinner. A festival. A lakefront view. A walk past a house that makes them slow down and whisper, “What do you think something like that costs?”
Kim and Joel are the people you call when that whisper gets serious.
Make Your Lake Geneva Weekend Plan
So pick your thing.
Go see ABBA and Fleetwood Mac tributes at Geneva Stage. Catch Into the Woods in Elkhorn. Head to Delavan for Cinco de Mayo Fest. Try Thumbs Up for Cinco De Derby in downtown Lake Geneva. Put on the hat for Maxwell Mansion or PIER 290. Sip wine Sunday. Sing karaoke badly and blame the sound system.
That is allowed.

And when the lake starts getting in your head a little, the way it tends to do, reach out to Kim and Joel Reyenga with eXp Realty. They’ll help you explore what home could look like around Lake Geneva, Williams Bay, Fontana, Delavan, Elkhorn, and the communities that make this place feel like more than a weekend.
