Hey Lake Lovers,

Halloween weekend in Lake Geneva ends on a Sunday afternoon with a wine glass in your hand. The Fall Wine Walk turns 24 downtown shops into tasting stops for 4 hours, and it’s how downtown closes out the weekend.

It’s a fundraiser, too. Proceeds go to Downtown Lake Geneva Inc. for the downtown holiday lighting.

Here’s what to know: the check-in window that trips people up, what each ticket gets you, all 24 stops grouped by block, and how to plan the day.

How the Wine Walk works

You check in at The Bottle Shop with your ID and ticket. You get your passport, a map, a lanyard and your glass.

From there, there’s no set order. Each stop pours a sample and most have snacks. You go shop to shop at your own pace until 4 PM.

There are 2 rules people forget. The lanyard stays on the whole time. And your glass has to be empty before you leave a stop, because you can’t carry open wine down the sidewalk.

Which ticket, and when to show up

General admission, $45

A wine glass, a sample at every stop, snacks, a brochure with a map and shop discounts, a lanyard and a bag. New this year: a $10 gift card in your check-in bag.

Designated driver, $20

Bottled water, craft soda, snacks and a lanyard. It’s a real ticket, so the driver walks the whole route with you.

Get there by 11

Check-in runs 10 AM to noon and pours start at noon. Arrive by 11 and you’re through the line with time to plan your route.

Buy this week

The organizer says the walk sells out every year, and tickets can’t be refunded. Buy once your group is sure.

Tips from a local

Eat first. Samples and snacks aren’t lunch. Have a real breakfast before check-in.

Don’t try for all 24. 4 hours over 24 stops is 10 minutes each with no walking time. Pick 12 to 15 and enjoy them.

Start where the crowd isn’t. Everyone checks in at 617 W. Main, so the first wave hits the stops closest to it. Start on Broad or Center Street instead.

Use the brochure. It lists shop discounts, and your $10 gift card is in the check-in bag. This is the day to do some early holiday shopping.

Dress for November. You’ll be in and out of shops all afternoon. Wear shoes you can walk in and bring a layer.

Mistakes to skip

Showing up at 12:30 to check in. Check-in runs 10 AM to noon. Don’t plan a late arrival.

Walking out with wine in your glass. Finish it at the stop. Open glasses aren’t allowed on the sidewalk.

Leaving your ID at the hotel. No valid ID, no check-in.

Waiting to buy. It sells out, and there’s no day-of price listed.
