What’s happening at the lake: festival week (July 15 to 19, 2026)

Three festivals. Five days. One very full weekend.

If you were going to pick one week this summer to come up from Chicago, you picked a good one. Here’s your rundown of Lake Geneva events July 15-19, 2026, and the short version is smoke, country music, and a chicken dinner served in a lakeside park.

The two biggest things happening are free to walk into. Bring a lawn chair.

Lake Geneva events July 15-19, 2026: 3 festivals worth the drive

10th Annual Elkhorn Ribfest

Wednesday, July 15 (3:00 PM to 11:00 PM) through Sunday, July 19 (11:00 AM to 9:00 PM) | Walworth County Fairgrounds, 411 E. Court St., Elkhorn | Free admission and free parking | wisconsinribfest.com

Ten years in, and Ribfest has turned into the biggest BBQ weekend in the state. Pro pitmasters come in from around the country (and Australia) to compete, backyard grillers throw down in their own class, and you get to eat your way through all of it.

Thursday through Saturday the gates open at 11:00 AM and stay open until 11:00 PM. That’s a long time to be around brisket.

Two stages run more than 25 bands across the 5 days, one of them under the big tent. Cherry Pie, Bella Cain, Madison County, and Rival 5 are all on the bill, and The Prince Experience closes the whole thing out Sunday night. Grand Champion and People’s Choice awards get handed out Sunday at 5:45 PM on the Main Stage.

New this year: a People’s Choice vote for mac and cheese, plus a free-to-enter bike show on Thursday night. There’s also a carnival and the Artisan Alley craft show if ribs aren’t the whole reason you came.

Country Thunder Wisconsin

Keith Urban headlines. So do Riley Green, The Red Clay Strays, and Gavin Adcock, with Gretchen Wilson, Shaboozey, Ian Munsick, Nate Smith, and Lonestar filling out 4 days of country.

Twin Lakes is a half-hour drive southeast of Lake Geneva, which makes this doable as a day trip if camping in July isn’t your idea of a vacation. Country Thunder also runs a shuttle from Lake Geneva and Elkhorn. Book that in advance.

59th Annual Williams Bay Fire Department Chicken Roast

Saturday, July 18 (12:00 PM to 7:00 PM) | Edgewater Park, Williams Bay | $14 per ticket

This is the one locals actually plan around. Fifty-nine years of the volunteer fire department roasting chicken in a park on the water, and the formula hasn’t changed: half a chicken, baked potato, coleslaw, a roll, and cake.

Fourteen dollars. Eat it at a picnic table with the lake right there, or take it home. Tickets come from fire department members or you can buy at the gate.

Live music and theater

Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra: “American Soundscape”

Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, Gershwin, Bernstein, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and (apparently) a nod to The Simpsons and Taylor Swift. Free, outdoors, on the lakefront, as part of the Concerts in the Park series.

Miss Thursday? They play the same program again Sunday, July 19 at 3:30 PM at Phoenix Park in Delavan.

Tribute week at the Belfry Music Theatre

Zachary Stevenson does his Buddy Holly tribute on Wednesday. Thursday through Saturday it’s “Sounds of Summer,” a Beach Boys tribute.

Disney’s Dare to Dream Jr. by the Lakeland Players

28 local kids on the stage of a historic downtown theater, for $10 a seat. Second weekend of a two-weekend run.

Million Dollar Quartet at the Fireside Dinner Theatre

December 4, 1956: Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and Elvis all end up in the same Memphis studio. That’s the show, plus a three-course dinner. It’s a drive, and it’s worth it.

Community events and outdoor stuff

The Power of Song in Democracy with Chris Vallillo

Wednesday, July 15 (6:00 PM to 8:00 PM) | Horticultural Hall, 330 Broad St., Lake Geneva | Free with a non-perishable food donation

Folk musician and historian Chris Vallillo walks through how music has worked as a political tool in this country, from the Revolutionary War forward. It’s part of the America’s 250th programming, presented by Black Point Estate and Gardens and the Friends of the Lake Geneva Public Library.

Bring a can of something and get in free.

For Liberty and Union: a Civil War living history weekend

An 1860s soldier camp, built out on the grounds, with interpreters telling the story of the 23rd Wisconsin Regiment. Old World Wisconsin sits up in the Kettle Moraine, so you can stack it with a hike and make a day of it.

East Troy Railroad: Picnic in the Park Train

Sunday, July 19 (1:30 PM boarding, 2:00 PM departure) | East Troy Railroad Museum, East Troy | $40 per person, reservations required | easttroyrr.org

You ride a vintage trolley on the last electric interurban tracks in Wisconsin, get off at Jim Byrnes Memorial Park, and eat lunch. Reservations are required, so don’t just show up.

Playing all week

The Abbey Resort in Fontana has Bar West live music on Friday night (9:30 PM to 12:30 AM) and Burnin’ Down the Docks on Sunday, July 19 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM with Big Al Wetzel on the waterfront patio.

Grand Geneva has the Lobby Bar going all week: Mark Thierfelder through Wednesday, Dan Trudell Thursday through Saturday, and DJs at Evolve nightly.

Tristan Crist Magic Theatre runs shows Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday in downtown Lake Geneva. Tickets are $48, and it’s the move if Saturday turns into a rainy one.

Fontana Music in the Park is back at the Reid Park Gazebo on Thursday, July 16 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Free.

Save the date

• Saturday, July 25: Big Foot Lions Club Lobster Boil and Steak Fry, Reid Park, Fontana. Lobster dinners have to be preordered at bigfootlionsclub.org.
• August 7 to 9: Williams Bay Lions Club Corn and Brat Festival, Edgewater Park. Free admission, live music, beer tent, fireworks Saturday night.
• August 19 to 23: 64th Annual Venetian Festival, downtown Lake Geneva. Carnival, lighted boat parade, fireworks.
• September 2 to 7: 177th Walworth County Fair, Walworth County Fairgrounds, Elkhorn. This year’s theme is “Glitter and Gold: A Fair to Behold.”
