This week around Lake Geneva brings a little bit of everything: a steak cookout at the Walworth County Fairgrounds, free music in Flat Iron Park, 4 nights of Fleetwood Mac songs at The Belfry, youth theater in Elkhorn, a Jimmy Buffett-themed golf outing, outdoor markets, and one of Fontana’s favorite summer traditions.

The headline event is the Big Foot Lions Lobster Boil & Steak Fry on Saturday, July 25. It fills Reid Park with music from noon until late evening, with lobster and steak dinners served from 2 to 9 p.m., or until the food runs out.

Saturday is crowded enough that you’ll need to make a choice. You can start with golf at Alpine Valley, spend the afternoon in Fontana, catch a Led Zeppelin tribute in Delavan, or finish the night with a Fleetwood Mac tribute at The Belfry.

Walworth County Junior Beef Steak Cookout

The Walworth County Junior Beef Steak Cookout runs from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at the Walworth County Fairgrounds in Elkhorn.

This is a community cookout with a purpose. Proceeds support the Walworth County Junior Beef Project, so dinner also helps young exhibitors who put months of work into their animals and fair projects.

It’s a good midweek choice when you want a real meal without turning Wednesday into a major production. The fairgrounds are easy to reach from Lake Geneva, Delavan, Walworth, and Williams Bay.

World Turning: Fleetwood Mac Tribute at The Belfry

World Turning, a Fleetwood Mac tribute, opens Wednesday at The Belfry Music Theatre and continues through Saturday, July 25. Performances begin at 7 p.m.

The Belfry is one of the area’s best choices when the weather looks questionable or you want a proper seated show instead of music in a bar. The theater is north of Delavan in a restored historic venue, and the setting makes the evening feel more special than a standard tribute-band date.

Buy tickets in advance. Summer tribute shows can fill quickly, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

Thursday, July 23: free music in downtown Lake Geneva

Horace Greene at Concerts in the Park

Lake Geneva’s free Concerts in the Park series continues Thursday with Horace Greene from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flat Iron Park, 201 Wrigley Drive.

The setting is hard to beat. You’re downtown, the lake is close, and you can make the concert as simple or elaborate as you like. Bring a chair or blanket and claim a spot early if the weather is good.

Your Sister’s Tomato is the scheduled food vendor, serving wood-fired pizza along with cotton candy, lemon shakeups, soda, and water. You can also eat downtown before the show, then walk over to the park.

Parking near Flat Iron Park gets tighter as the concert approaches. Arriving before 5:30 p.m. gives you a better chance of finding a convenient spot and leaves time to walk along the lakefront.

World Turning also performs at The Belfry at 7 p.m. Thursday. These events overlap, so this is a pick-one night unless you’re willing to leave the park early.

Friday, July 24: local theater and a classic Wisconsin dinner plan

Dare to Dream Jr. at Historic Sprague Theater

Lakeland Players presents Dare to Dream Jr. at the Historic Sprague Theater, 15 W. Walworth Street in downtown Elkhorn.

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. This is a good option when you want to support local performers or need an indoor plan during a hot or rainy weekend.

Downtown Elkhorn is compact, so dinner and the show are easy to pair. Check Lakeland Players for tickets and any door-opening instructions.

Turn Friday into a fish fry night

Friday is also the easiest night to slow down and lean into a Wisconsin tradition. Use the Lake Geneva Friday Fish Fry Guide to find options in Lake Geneva, Williams Bay, Fontana, Delavan, Elkhorn, and nearby communities.

Make a reservation when possible. Summer Fridays are busy, and the most popular supper clubs and lakefront restaurants can have long waits between 5 and 7 p.m.

World Turning performs again at 7 p.m. at The Belfry, giving you a simple dinner-and-show combination if you reserve both ahead of time.

Saturday, July 25: the biggest event day of the week

Saturday has too many good events to do all of them. Pick an anchor, then build the rest of the day around it.

Big Foot Lions Lobster Boil & Steak Fry

The Big Foot Lions Lobster Boil & Steak Fry takes over Reid Park in Fontana on Saturday.

Beer, wine, and music run from noon to 11:30 p.m. Lobster and steak dinners are served from 2 to 9 p.m., while supplies last.

The music schedule is:

• Big Al Wetzel: noon to 2 p.m.
• Mr. Myers: 2 to 4 p.m.
• Eddie Butts Band: 4 to 7:30 p.m.
• Maddie Jo Band: 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

This is more than a dinner stop. It’s a full afternoon and evening in the park, and people often settle in for several hours. Buy dinner tickets early when presales are available. The Lions warn that meals can sell out.

Reid Park is close to the lakefront, Fontana Beach, and the village center. Parking will be the least fun part of the day, so arrive early and expect to walk.

Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a light layer for later. A July afternoon by Geneva Lake can feel hot, while the temperature drops quickly after sunset.

Fins and Pins at Alpine Valley Resort

Golfers can start Saturday at Fins and Pins, a Jimmy Buffett-themed golf outing at Alpine Valley Resort.

Check-in and cart decorating begin at 8:30 a.m., with tee-off at 9:30 a.m. The event includes 18 holes, themed activities, tastings, lunch, prizes, and event merchandise. The listed cost is $100 per golfer.

This works well for people who want a full daytime activity before switching to an evening event. Registration is required, so don’t treat it as a walk-up plan.

Alpine Valley Music Theatre does not list a major amphitheater concert during this July 22–28 date range. Check the official Alpine Valley Music Theatre calendar before traveling, since schedules and venue announcements can change.

Kashmir at Phoenix Park Bandshell

Kashmir, a Led Zeppelin tribute, performs Saturday at Phoenix Park Bandshell in Delavan.

Phoenix Park concerts are one of the area’s best low-cost summer nights. Bring lawn chairs, arrive early enough to find parking, and check the official bandshell schedule for the final start time and any weather notices.

This is the strongest free evening alternative to the ticketed Belfry show. Classic-rock fans have a real dilemma: Led Zeppelin outdoors in Delavan or Fleetwood Mac inside The Belfry.

Sharon Extravaganza

Downtown Sharon hosts the Sharon Extravaganza on Saturday with vendors, local sales, games, music, and small-town activity.

Sharon is a nice choice for visitors who prefer browsing at their own pace instead of committing to a large festival. Pair it with a drive through southern Walworth County, then head north toward Fontana, Walworth, or Delavan for the evening.

Sunday, July 26: market morning and theater matinee

Geneva Outdoor Market

The Geneva Outdoor Market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday on the festival grounds at Lake Geneva House of Music.

Admission is free. Expect a rotating group of vendors and a casual atmosphere that works well after a late Saturday night.

The market is outside downtown Lake Geneva, so parking is usually less stressful than a waterfront event. Check the House of Music calendar before leaving home for vendor updates or weather-related changes.

Sunday matinee in Elkhorn

The final performance of Dare to Dream Jr. begins at 2 p.m. at Historic Sprague Theater.

That gives you time for the outdoor market in the morning, lunch, and a short drive to Elkhorn for the show. It’s one of the easiest two-event combinations of the weekend.

Monday and Tuesday, July 27–28: take the quieter route

The public event calendar slows down Monday and Tuesday, which isn’t a bad thing after this weekend.

Use the quieter days for the Geneva Lake Shore Path, a boat tour, beach time, shopping downtown, or a drive through the lake communities. Start early if you’re walking the path. Shade is inconsistent, and summer heat builds quickly.

Looking ahead: July 29 through August 2

The following weekend starts early.

The Belfry hosts an Electric Light Orchestra tribute on July 29 and 30, followed by a Supertramp tribute on July 31 and August 1.

Geneva Stage presents Matilda from Thursday, July 30, through Sunday, August 2.

On Saturday, August 1, Pink the Lake begins at 8 a.m. at Melges Real Estate, 233 Center Street in Lake Geneva. The walk supports breast cancer education and advocacy through My Density Matters and the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition.

Also on August 1, the Geneva Lake West Rotary Corn & Bratwurst Festival returns to Devil’s Lane Park in Walworth from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It’s the 65th annual festival and a major fundraiser for local Rotary projects.

Immanuel United Church of Christ will also sell cream puffs and eclairs in conjunction with the festival. The church sale begins earlier in the day and continues while supplies last.

How to plan this Lake Geneva week without overbooking it

Choose 1 anchor event for Saturday. The Lobster Boil can easily take up most of the afternoon and evening. Fins and Pins is a full golf event. A theater performance needs a set arrival time.

Buy tickets before the weekend for The Belfry, Lakeland Players, or any golf registration. Free concerts don’t need tickets, but they do require extra time for parking.

Bring chairs for Flat Iron Park and Phoenix Park. Bring sunscreen and water for daytime events. Check radar before leaving, but also check the event organizer’s page because every venue handles weather differently.

Most of all, leave some room in the schedule. A Geneva Lake weekend is better when you can stop for an ice cream, walk by the water, or stay for one more song without watching the clock.
